Life in a pandemic

2020 started out with a bang didn’t it? Personally it wasn’t the greatest of starts, and then globally we began to hear about COVID-19.

What started out concerning, in another country, became panic in ours. And in a matter of days, our world and lives were turned upside down. Now please keep in mind the following on only my thoughts, and political views aside, oh hell even with political views, WE CAN DO BETTER.

Nationally and locally we are living in fear. As of today, more than 6000 people have died, in the United States, we have more than 261,000 people infected with this virus, and not nearly enough test or hospital beds and equipment to handle this. How will we remember these days?

I will remember people hording toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and hand sanitizer. I will remember the worry I had for my granddaughter, my elderly parents, my children. I will remember those who said this is nothing but a hoax to make the President look bad. I will remember those that only thought of themselves.

I will also remember those people that stood up and said, “I can help you,” I’ll bring you whatever you need.” to the elderly who were afraid to go out, or to the high risk people who didn’t dare go out. When I say we can do better, I refer to the ones that thought of no one but themselves. Everyone one of us have someone that is at risk, this disease singles no one out. Young, old, man, woman, child, Republican or Democrat, rich or poor, it hits all.

When I say we can do better, I mean as a world leader, our government should not be telling our states that they are on their own in getting medical equipment they need. Our states should not be told “well you need to find all this stuff on the open market.” Nor should it ever be questioned when told we need twice or three times more than we normally get, that the number doesn’t sound right that there must be something going on.

Remember I said that political differences don’t matter, they don’t. And Yes I am not a fan of President Trump, for many reasons. I feel his handling of this crisis has been horrible. NO it is not is fault that it happened, but it is his fault on the way he responded to it. From the moment of his claiming that it’s just the flu, to one day it will just disappear. The fact that he says if certain states want his help they need to be nice to him; is so far from human. To me it comes across as, be nice to me or people in your state will certainly die. NO… WE CAN DO BETTER.

I started thinking about this blog, this post with the idea that we all need a break from all of this, and we do, but we also need to talk about all this. We need to come together in a difficult time and say whats on our mind. It does no one any good to keep it all in. There is a silver lining in all of this, somewhere, we just need to look for it. I’d like to think this is all going to help us find our humanity, our compassion again. As far as I’m concerned no truer words have been spoken than WE’RE IN THIS TOGETHER.

LETS DO BETTER
